Using Braintree Sandbox Cards in Development

Braintree Sandbox supports testing credit card tokenization, authorization, and processor decline simulation via Braintree GraphQL API, SDKs, and Drop-in UI.

1. Initialize with Sandbox Keys

Obtain your Sandbox Merchant ID, Public Key, and Private Key from the Braintree Sandbox Control Panel. Set your gateway environment configuration explicitly to Environment.Sandbox.

2. Enter Test Card Credentials

Use official sandbox card numbers from the table above. Expiration dates accept any future date (e.g., 12/34) and any 3-digit CVV (1234 for Amex).

3. Test Tokenization & Nonce Generation

In client-side implementations (Drop-in UI or Hosted Fields), test cards tokenize successfully to return a paymentMethodNonce for server-side processing.

4. Simulate Card Verification & Processor Declines

Use designated Braintree test card numbers such as the Visa ending 1115 or Mastercard ending 5100 to simulate unsuccessful card-verification responses. For transaction-level decline testing, Braintree also uses test transaction amounts to trigger processor responses.
